Cross Country

On Thursday afternoon we had our Junior Cross Country.

We went outside onto the grass with the rest of the Minnows team and lined up in our age groups.

Before we ran we had to do our stretches. Miss Blackburn showed us what to do.
Then it was time to line up for our big run. Mrs Wallace said, "on your marks, get set, go!!!' And we were off.
We ran around our butterfly shape. Some people ran all the way and others ran one wing and walked the  other.

Mrs Craib, Mrs Curtis and Ms Heath gave out sticks to show we had finished a lap.
It was a long way to run and we got very tired.
At the end we all lined up and put our sticks into the whanau team boxes.
We had fun.

Antarctic Centre Visit

Last Friday we went to the Antarctic Centre. We took Pita the Penguin with us.

We saw a seal. It had sharp teeth. Some people went on a sled.

We saw penguins swimming in a pool. The penguins plunged into the water using their flippers and webbed feet to fly through the water. There were girl penguins and boys too. One penguin had only one foot. That penguin was a boy. We didn’t know there were real penguins at the Antarctic Centre.
We went in the snow room and took Pita the Penguin with us. In the snow room there was a temperature. It was freezing. We went on the ice slide in the snow room. There was an igloo. There was a big storm in the snow room. We huddled together to keep warm. Some of us hid in the igloo. We nearly got blown away.
We watched a movie on a big screen.
We had grown ups to look after us.

Junior Neighbourhood Support

Today Andrea Habberfield from the Junior Neighbourhood Support visited our classroom. She told us how we can be nominated for awards. We can help other people to be nominated. She said this could be at school, at home or in our community. We need to get the people we help to sign the forms in
the office so we are nominated.
Andrea will be back at our school
in a few weeks to pass out the awards.

Room 4's Photographers

Whenever we need a photo of our class working or going to different places we have photographers who take the cameras to take the photos.

Here are the clever children who have taken photos already to put onto our blog.

Duffy Theatre

On Wednesday the Duffy Theatre came to our school. 3 people called James, Leroy and Julia put on a performance about Duffy and his adventures with books.

The story was about the best book in the world. Duffy has a brother called Scruffy and they have to clean out a box for their mum but Duffy finds a book he doesn't want his mum to throw out. So the adventure begins.

Duffy meets many different characters that had to be shown the best book in the world.

We laughed a lot because they were very funny.

Our Rubbish Heap

Today we looked at all the rubbish, recycling and compost we collect in one week at our school.

There were quite a few smelly things.

Miss Dalzell talked to us about how much we had collected and had we sorted it into the right places.
Look at how much we threw out!

We were given a challenge to make a change.

When we got back to our class we put our Green thinking hats on to consider what we will do next. We are going to start by washing out containers - such as yoghurt pots -  and reusing these in our classroom.

Collecting Seeds

Last week we collect seeds from the heads of flowers.

We got into groups and chose a flower head to take the seeds off. We had sunflowers and agapanthus flower heads to chose from.
We have collected lots of seeds we can plant later once our vegetables have been harvested.

Flippy and Flappy

We have 2 goldfish in our class called Flippy and Flappy. They live in a bowl in our room with oxygen weed in the bowl. They swim round and round especially when there is too much noise in our room. We take turns at feeding them - it's only a little bit each day because they are only small. Sometimes they get
really smelly and we have to clean out their bowl.
